Betta albimarginata a Zagabria

5 mesi fa in Germania ho acquistato 3 maschi e 2 femmine di Betta albimarginata.

Acquario
60X30X35 cm, 63 L

Piante
Hygrophila angustifolia, Ludwigia repens, Hygrophila polysperma, Cryptocoryne wendtii, Microsorum pteropus, Sagittaria subulata, Cryptocoryne parva, Ceratophyllum demersum, Nymphoides sp., Limnobium laevigatum, Salvinia natans e Lemna minor.

Pesci e lumache
5 x Betta albimarginata, 1 x Otocinclus, 5 x Corydoras duplicareus, 1 x Corydoras habrosus, 5 x Caridina multidentata e 4 x Anentome helena.

Non so però se la vasca sia un pò piccola per sei esemplari, facci sapere come va la convivenza e se vedi le brutte separa i cinque esemplari tenendo un trio (2m 1f) da una parte e una coppia (1m e 1f) dall'altra, in vasche separate.

Il layout è molto carino, per quanto riguarda i cory forse cercherei di metterli tutti della stessa specie, e magari aumentare il numero di otocinclus, dato che sono pesci che in natura stanno in gruppi molto ma molto numerosi.

Ti faccio un in bocca al lupo per questa specie! Tienici informati!

Li ho per 5 mesi e fino ad ora tutto funziona bene. Ma per allevare piccoli e meglio separare cinque esemplari in due vasche, come tu hai scritto.

A questo momento non c'e otocinclus e habrosus in Zagabria. Quando arrivano io li compra. Qualche otocinclus per questo acquario e qualche habrosus per mahachai acquario dove questo solo habrosus anche ritorna in futuro.

Inizialmente, ho usato l'acqua di rubinetto, ma dopo ho iniziato aggiungere RO acqua in albimarginata acquario.

E dopo molto attesa, due giorni fa, sono usciti primi piccoli.

Although as you can see Betta is very adaptable, albimarginata&channoides feel more confortable in acid black water, as cory and otos

This is exactly what I'm trying to achieve and that's why I've started to change water to become more softer and more acidic. I had about 6-7 unsuccesfull spawns which couldn't last more than 3 days. Then I realized that I'll have to slowly change water parameters. I wanted to achieve this parameters, pH 5.5-6 and hardness around 3, but before I came to that point I've managed to have succesfull spawn at pH 7.5, KH 6 and GH 8. But I'll continue with changing water parameters for a while, especially considering that pH is still high.

Under the gravel there are Fertil Peat Plates (Prodac) and I'm using catappa leaves + alder cones (pigne di ontano) but pH is still rather high. I've ordered Haqos EXPRO 500 hang-on canister filter, I hope this new filter will be much better for them and than I'll start to use extra peat inside of filter.

However, I'm still not completely satisfied but I hope that I'll soon achieve excellent conditions for my Betta albimarginata group, during time maybe even in bigger aquarium or in two separated aquariums.

By the way, male started to eat yesterday night, all together he released 20 small ones, but unforutunately I've lost 2 of them because they've get stucked between the net and plastic part of the net breeding trap. :blush:

But there are still 18 small ones, now separated in plastic breeding trap where they can not get stucked. And they're eating artemia for some time...

It's been wise separate them from the rest of the tankmates in such a tiny tank but you know, plastic box is not so large for 18 specimens, even if they are still very small.
Fortune is by your side anyway, because albimarginata grow slower if compared to other mouthbroother Betta, so you have time to prepare another small tank where to keep them till they reach adult size

Chapter filtration.
It's been even wiser to buy another filter where to put a few grams of peat.
Peat is useful when the flow of the water pass through it, so the idea of placing it inside a slow power filter is perfect, and combined with RO water changes, that keep hardness low, absolutely you'll reach acid ph in very short time

I completely agree with filtration part. I'll try to do something like that.

Considering the plastic breeding trap, it's just for the "first help". It seems that albimarginata fry is passive type of hunters, they're waiting to catch the prey and they don't hurry at all. They move very slowly. That's why I think that this little plastic box is  suitable for the first few days. But don't worry, I have an empty aquarium dimensions 45x23x28 cm (29 L). That aquarium is planned for albimarginata fry in future, probably very soon.

Height of that aquarium is 28 cm. What you think about water level? What is the good height of water level to start with, when I transfer albimarginata fry to that aquarium? I guess it's better to start with very low water level in the beginning and later to raise it while they grow bigger.

Per il livello dell'acqua non preoccuparti, se riesci a mantenerlo basso per i primi tempi va bene, ma non è indispensabile...penso siano più importanti le piante galleggianti, e i vari ripari, perchè con quelli i pesci si sentono più al sicuro e meno stressati.
Con gli incubatori orali si hanno più problemi fino a che il maschio non sputa i piccoli, perchè questo può ingoiare le uova o sputarle prima del previsto, però una volta espulsi i piccoli nei tempi giusti, questi sono molto ma molto più facilmente gestibili dei costruttori di nido, perchè le larve sono ben formate, hanno una dimensione, una corporatura e un apparato digerente tali da renderli in grado di mangiare subito naupli d'artemia e sono abituati alla variazione di pressione corrispondente alla profondità di nuoto, in quanto il padre prima di sputarli non se ne sta sempre in superficie, ma vaga per la vasca anche in prossimità del fondo, al contrario dei piccoli dei costruttori di nido che hanno con la superficie dell'acqua un rapporto molto più stretto.
